The game is also known as punto banco, baccarat chemin de fer and baccarat banque (or à deux tableaux).
The following online casinos offer the best baccarat experience and feature tables with Vegas odds or better.
Baccarat is one of the easiest casino games to learn how to play and unlike most easy games to play the house advantage is not all that high. This makes baccarat a perfect choice for the player new to gambling.
You begin a baccarat game by placing a bet on either Player, Banker Or Tie. Then two hands are dealt, one for the player and one for the banker. Quite simple the hand that is close to 9 wins. However there are instances where a third card is dealt, we cover those hands further on in this guide.
All picture cards ( J,Q,K ) and tens are worth zero, Aces are worth 1 and the remaining cards are worth their face value. If the value of the cards dealt is over 10 then 10 is subtracted from the total.
Example : 4 & 8 are dealt. The total is 12 so the hand Value is 2
Once the initial two cards have been dealt for the dealer and the player the "Third Card Rule" comes into effect. You as the player have no decision to make as the cards are dealt according to the following rules. No hand get more than 3 cards.
When the Player and Banker hands equal the same total, the hand is declared a Tie. If the value of the cards in either the Player's Hand or the Banker's Hand is an 8 or a 9 (a "natural") after receiving their initial two cards then no more cards shall be dealt to either hand. If the value of the cards in the Banker's hand on the first two cards is 0 to 7 inclusive, the Player's hand shall draw in accordance with the "Third Card Rules"
If the players hand equals 0 to 5 another card is dealt, if the had equals 6 to 7 no additional card is dealt, if the hand equals 8 to 9 both hands stand.
Once the players hand is finished according to the above rules the bankers hand is finalized. If the bankers hand equals 0 to 2 the banker gets an additional card, if the bankers hand equals 3 to 6 the players third card determines the whether the banker draws or stands and if the dealer has 7 the dealer stands.
When the bankers hand equals between 3 and 6
If the banker has 3 : Banker draws if player has 1,2,3,4,5,6,7 and 9
If the banker has 4 : Banker draws if player has 2,3,4,5,6 and 7
If the banker has 5 : Banker draws if player has 4,5,6 and 7
If the banker has 6 : Banker draws if player has 6 and 7
If the banker has 7 : Banker stands
If the banker has 8 or 9 : Banker stands
A bet placed on banker pays off 1 to 1 - Commission (Typically 5%)
A bet placed on player pays off 1 to 1
A bet placed on Tie pays off 8 to 1
Baccarat is a game where there are two real strategies. One is to bet on banker all the time and the other is to follow the streaks and try to predict the outcome of the nest hand of cards. Either way baccarat can be very profitable.
Unlike most easy to play casino games baccarat has a low house advantage on two of the three possible betting options. The most simple strategy is to either bet on player or banker and avoid the Tie bet.
By sticking to the Banker or Player bets you have roughly a 50% of picking the right outcome and in the event of a tie winning you get your initial bet back.
While there are three different bet options for you while playing baccarat they are not even in terms of odds or pay outs. The three different bets are,
Player - Pays 2 to 1 : The player bet has the second highest probability coming in just below the banker bet. The Player bet attracts no commission for a win so it pays a true 2 to 1 for your money on the table.
Banker - Pays 2 to 1 less commission : The banker bet has the highest probability of occurring in a game of baccarat however because of this the casino takes a commission on all wins placed on the banker bet.
Tie - Usually Pays 8 to 1 and in some casinos 9 to 1 : The tie bet is the worst bet on the baccarat table. The house edge is huge on this bet and even at an 8 to 1 pay out we don't recommend that you make this your favorite baccarat bet.
Due to the fact that the probability of the banker winning is slightly higher than the other outcomes betting always on banker is a strategy using the numbers.
The banker bet has one drawback however and that is the commission taken from any win made on the banker bet. This commission is usually 5% and does somewhat reduce the advantages of this strategy.
The most popular baccarat strategy is to watch the cards for streaks and play accordingly. The game of baccarat is always played with a "score card" that outlines the past hands in the current shoe.
It is not uncommon for there to be large player, banker or even tie streaks. If you can predict the streaks correctly you can very quickly win a lot of money, especially on a tie streak.
